CraftMaster Green Doors

CraftMaster Green Doors for a better environment.

CraftMaster manufactures interior doors of various designs such as molded, stile and rail, and flush doors. They also come in various colors and styles, thus offering a wide variety from which you can choose from. Of note, however, is a class of their molded doors that has been dubbed CraftMaster Green Doors.

As their name clearly indicates, CraftMaster Green Doors are designed for environmentally conscious customers who wish to minimize their carbon footprint. The doors are made of sustainable and recycled materials. They have no urea formaldehyde, and contain low levels of volatile organic compound (VOC) primers and adhesives.

Apart from a few exceptions, all CraftMaster molded doors can be manufactured as Green Doors. These can have either a hollow or solid core. As for the latter, the core is made of GreenLite fiberboard.

Wood used for the manufacture of the Green Doors come from the residual waste of sawmill operations. Also, leftover wood and waste from the chipping operations of treetops are gathered for processing. Chipping is usually conducted to help promote better tree growth. And to minimize the use of fuel for transportation, all wood gathering operations are limited to within 200 miles of the CraftMaster plant.

At the plant, workmen ensure that doors made with hollow cores contain a minimum of 56% pre-consumer recycled wood, while those with solid core have 70%. A certification from the Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) attests to this.

While urea formaldehyde (UF) is an effective binder of wood particles, it increases formaldehyde levels in the air which is toxic to humans. For this reason, CraftMaster Green Doors are manufactured with no added UF. This, too, is certified by SCS.

To minimize offgassing, or the release by VOCs of potentially toxic chemicals into the air, the Green Doors use only low-VOC adhesives and primers.
