How to Build Your Own Functional Closet Shelving

Every home needs a closet – be it near the entryway, inside the bedroom or the garage. However for the closet to be fully functional, it should contain numerous shelving and cubbies. These storage spaces will help maintain the closet’s neatness so you can easily find what you are looking for.

To add shelving to your current closet, you will need to take several measurements of the inside of your closet and sketch a design of how you’ll want your shelving to be. After that, cut out several pieces of wood for the cleats and shelving. Make sure everything is straight by using a level. To make your job faster, you can opt to use a nail gun, but working with a regular hammer is sufficient too.

To create multiple storage spaces inside your new closet, add a vertical sub-divider. Once this is installed, you can now have cubby shelves on the left side, hanging space on upper right side and shoe storage space on the bottom right side. All that’s left to do is put in a hanging bar.

You can style your closet shelving any way you like, just make sure it works for you. Remember that every inch of that space inside your closet is precious so use it wisely.
